Before 1958, Seymour Narrows, north of Campbell River on Vancouver Island, was infamous for being the most treacherous area for ocean navigation in North America. Many lives were lost from vessels having their hulls ripped apart by the teeth of the twin peaks of Ripple Rock that lurked just nine feet under the surface at low tide.
